Welcome to our website and our program. We offer a three-year fellowship with an emphasis in the third year on laboratory or patient-oriented research. Our principal goal is to prepare physicians for continuing careers in academic infectious disease practice. While previous research experience is useful, it is not a prerequisite for the fellowship.

All fellows complete one full year of clinical training in general infectious diseases, and research training in a primary field of infectious diseases focused on their own career interests. Fellows do their research training with a mentor or co-mentors selected from among our diverse faculty (see faculty list for details of research programs).

Fellows interested in careers in patient-oriented research will enroll in a National Institutes of Health K30-sponsored program with modules aimed at supplemental training in areas specific to clinical investigation. Fellows interested in careers in basic science/laboratory investigation may also enroll in supplemental courses within the UC San Diego Graduate School.
